David Goldsmith is a Consultant Kidney Physician at Guy's Hospital, Honorary Senior Lecturer, King's College and Deputy Director for Research and Development at Guy's and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, London. He is also an Associate Professor of Nephrology, "Gr T Popa" University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Iasi, Romania and Medical Advisor to the Kidney Research UK, and the UK National Kidney Federation.

He is a renal physician with specialist knowledge of renal disease and toxicology, dialysis and transplantation, with 251 publications and 17 abstracts to his name, having received over £1,000,000 in research grants to date. He has a great deal of experience in working with pharmaceutical companies, not only as the Guy's lead physician in many multi-centre drug studies but also as a member of many pharmaceutical company advisory boards. He has held/holds numerous memberships of learned associations and committees in the renal toxicology and dialysis fields. He has a number of personal research areas, including renal anaemia, diabetic nephropathy, hyperparathyroidism, phosphate metabolism, calcification, and cardiac and arterial structural and functional changes seen in uraemia, specifically arterial distensibility. He is also an external expert advisor to the MHRA.
